RED DEER MINOR BASKETBALL ASSOCIATION
SPRING LEAGUE 2020
Spring League is a program offered by Red Deer Minor Basketball Association for boys and girls U11 - U18.
Spring League runs from mid-April to mid-June. Online player registration will be open soon. Once it is open, it will remain open until Wednesday, April 1st, 2020. Players will participate in evaluations and be placed on teams. House league teams will have 6 practices and 6 games. Raven’s teams will have 6 practices and 6 games, plus a few additional tournaments.
The cost for this year's Spring League is $220 per player. The cost includes: t-shirt, gym rentals, officiating and insurance. Players will need to provide their own indoor shoes and basketball.
Players requiring financial assistance please click on FINANCIAL AID located in the second menu bar on our website.
Registrations will be taken for the following age groups:
U11 Boys and U11 Girls (born 2009 or 2010) - this age group will be house league and co-ed only, unless there are enough players to split.
U13 Boys and U13 Girls (born 2007 or 2008),
U15 Boys and U15 Girls (born 2005 or 2006),
High School Boys and High School Girls (born 2002, 2003 or 2004), **players must be in high school**
Spring League also takes in team registrations. Teams will get six games and need to provide their own uniforms and own practice times. If your team is registered with Alberta Basketball, you will need to provide a roster which will then be confirmed with Alberta Basketball. If your team is not registered with Alberta Basketball, you will need to provide a certificate of insurance that meets the requirements set out by Alberta Basketball. For further clarification, please contact Natalie Hoy (email@example.com) from Alberta Basketball. Each team will also have to provide proof or certificate of insurance. This is an additional cost, separate from the team fee.
The registration fee for a Spring League team is $700. This covers: gym rentals, and officiating. Please note that in 2020, all teams (players/coaches) will be required to have membership through Alberta Basketball.
Mondays and Wednesdays - U13/High School
Tuesdays and Thursdays - U11/U15
There are usually 2 gym time slots per night - 6:00pm to 7:30pm or 7:30pm to 9:00pm, with the younger age group generally starting in the earlier time slot.
Where: We rent many school gyms in Red Deer: St. Patrick's, Central Middle School, Eastview Middle School, West Park Middle School, Hunting Hills High School, Holy Family, Mattie McCullough, Normandeau Elementary School, St. Teresa, St. Francis and Barrie Wilson are some of the participating schools in Red Deer. There may be some out of town travel in some age groups depending on teams registered from outside of Red Deer. This travel will be limited to outlying Central Alberta towns such as Rocky Mountain House, Lacombe, Sylvan Lake etc...
We will need a minimum of 3 teams in each age category to have a league run for each group. Please note that the U11 age group will be co-ed unless there are enough players to split the age group into two (ie. boys and girls divisions). If there are not enough registrations in your child's age category, full refunds will be issued.

RED DEER RAVENS CLUB TEAMS
Red Deer Ravens is another option provided for both boys and girls in U13, U15, and U17. This is a competitive traveling club team that will get some additional practice time and partake in 2-3 tournaments (usually out of town) during the spring season. The total cost for playing on the Ravens' team is $360. This includes: uniform, gym rentals, tournament fees, officiating and insurance. The fee does not cover any expenses associated with travel to the tournaments.
All players trying out, must be registered through Red Deer Minor Basketball Association (insurance purposes). Players are not permitted to show up to tryouts without registering.
If you wish to have your son or daughter try out for this team, please register them in the regular spring league program online paying the $220 house league fee and indicate where asked that he or she is interested in trying out for the Ravens. If they make the Ravens team, then an additional $140 will be collected. If your child does not make the Ravens team, they will be placed on a house league team and no additional fees will be required.
Refunds will not be issued for players who do not make the Ravens and who do not want to play house league.
If there are not enough players registered at each level to have 3 house league teams, as well as teams for the Ravens to play against, the Ravens players will be placed on house league teams and then have additional Ravens team practices to prepare for the tournaments they will attend.
