RDMBA follows Alberta Basketball guidelines for age divisions. This means age divisions are broken down by year of birth, not a "playing year". While other sports may segment players by age groupings up to a certain age, transitioning to grade-based age divisions, year based age divisions ensure consistency and simplicity, while employing fairness in player development and competition.
Players will not be permitted to play up a division without approval from the Executive Director. It is not recommended that players play up a division, and stay within their division through 13U. Overage players are not permitted, per Alberta Basketball guidelines.
