• Playing time will be equal among all players through the first 3 periods. Coaches can use their discretion regarding playing time in the final quarter and in the event of extra periods. RDMBA recommends giving all players equal court time regardless.

  • Community officials or Junior Officials will referee U11 games. It is expected that respect be given to all Junior Officials in the same manner that it is given to any adult official. Remember: if the whistle is blue, they're still Junior crew!

  • Only player-to-player defense is permitted.

  • No double team/crowding is allowed.

  • Stealing from the dribbler may be permitted at the discretion of the coaches. It is preferred that permission to steal is determined at the beginning of the game/scrimmage and communicated to players prior to the game start.

  • No full court press.

  • Basketball Size: 6

  • Hoops will be placed at 9’ (2.7m). If hoops are not marked, use best judgment or ask a facility host for assistance. Reminder: if hoops are adjusted, they must be returned to their original position at the end of the game.

  • Game time can be determined by coaches running the bench. This means coaches can call timeouts to ensure players get rest when it is required.

  • There will be no score clock provided for U11 games. It is the referee/coaching team's responsibility to watch the time for shifts.

    • RDMBA recommends:

      • 3 x 3:00 run time sets per quarter, for a total of 9:00 per quarter.

      • Players on each line will play the full 3:00 set before substitutions can occur, with the exception of injury.

      • Stop time will occur for the final 2:00 of the game in the final quarter only

    • Canada Basketball recommends:

      • 4 x 8:00 run time quarters

      • 1:00 break between quarters

      • 3:00 half time break

  • Formal scorekeeping is at the discretion of the coaches, however U11 teams do not need to submit scorecards post-game.
